my guess is that after the sending off and the goal we took a pragmatic approach to use the game for fitness and to keep it tight ( shades of Sam in other words)

I imagine Lee will be happy he's scored on the one hand but thinking these are the opportunities he has got to show he can advance and he's got to score more than her does.

Job done, no injuries, we dont go further if we score more goals, do we?

We played both legs with at least half the team being made up of youth. This is great experience for them. On the face of it. We have done well. Through to the next round and another chance to
do something similar. The youth players will have gained valuable experience.

Agree. I expect that we would need stronger performances as each round progresses if we are serious abut qualification.

Monk - Sure, it's a balancing act, but remember we do have regular friendly games too. I think what some are alluding to is that if we are serious about getting to the group stages then we need to up our game. I'm expecting better in the next roundin terms of performance and a stronger side.

Re: FC Lusitans v West Ham - Official Match Thread 0-1 agg (0-4)
In the circumstances, the job here is to do just enough in these qualifying rounds to make the group stage. At the same time getting the players prepared for the league season.

It is somewhat churlish to criticise displays at this stage particularly where we have seen a comfortable 4-0 aggregate win. There is no extra bonus for scoring 6 or more in every game.

Not to say that it doesn't further highlight the need to strengthen the squad in terms of goalscoring options which if the reports are to be believed the club are seeking to do.

Well sure it'll match the fewest number of attempts on goal we've ever had in a game - 3 as it stands

Never saw Arsenal away in 2001 then, aye?

Re: FC Lusitans v West Ham - Official Match Thread 0-1 agg (0-4)
Hopefully Zarate will be fit as well Joe

I honestly believe that if fit enough both Obiang and Payet should play especially in the home game, better to get them blended in asap and playing competitive games.

I'd go something like

Adrian

O'Brien, Tomkins, Reid, Cresswell

Noble, Obiang

Downing, Payet, Jarvis

Zarate

Subs
Lee
Maiga
Poyet
Amalfitano
Collins
Hendrie
Randolph

Yes Joe, we are looking light up front.

Even though Sakho has been a good signing (so far) he is frustrating. First we had all that nonsense with rhe African nations, then he disappeared injured for a spell and now this ridiculous sending off.

Re: FC Lusitans v West Ham - Official Match Thread 0-1 agg (0-4)
3.0 up from first game?

SECOND game of season?

WIN 4.0?

Some people aren't happy, it's basically a friendly. If we'd 'gone for it' people be moaning.

4.0 job done

Re: FC Lusitans v West Ham - Official Match Thread
Should start seeing some of the players who've been in Ireland.

Though we must only have Lee and Maiga as options up front at the mo with Sakho suspended? Valencia not started pre-season yet, not sure about Carroll?

I'm assuming we will field stronger sides as from now onwards. 4-0 against this shower is NOT very good no matter how you want to spin it.

Just noticed that Miccoli plays for the team we're up against next. He's a player I've always rated. Obviously we should smash them, but they've obviously got proper players.

We really should be putting 6/7 past this shower.

1-0 is a surprisingly shit result

So after 4 seasons of "job done" football, I'm glad we are being consistent.

The goal is to get through these two qualifying rounds, give players who needed more time off a break & be ready to play Arsenal at some sort of peak without having senior players struggling before the end of the season.
So far so good
Well done

Don't really care about the result, we won.

However, to describe it as superb squad management is fucking absurd.

Why? Because we gave everyone a run out? That's Sunday league mate.
